Rebounder Exercises for Cellulite: What Works and What Doesn't

By — 25 September 2026 · 9 min read

Rebounder exercises for cellulite work by building muscle in your thighs and glutes and helping you lose body fat. Both make dimpling less visible. They do not remove cellulite, and nothing else does either. The moves that help most are rebounder squats, high knees, and side-to-side hops, done 15 to 20 minutes a day, four or five days a week, for at least two to three months.

Cellulite is not a separate kind of fat. It is normal fat under the skin pushing up between bands of connective tissue that run down to the muscle. Where those bands pull tight, the skin dips. Where fat pushes up between them, it bulges. The result is the dimpled look most people see on their thighs, hips, and bottom.

It is extremely common. According to the Cleveland Clinic, between 80% and 90% of women who have gone through puberty have some cellulite. Women get it far more than men because their connective tissue runs vertically, which lets fat push through more easily. Men's runs in a criss-cross pattern that holds it flatter.

Genetics, hormones, age, and skin thickness all play a part. Body weight matters, but slim and very fit people get cellulite too. That is the first thing to accept before you start: the goal is less visible cellulite, not none.

How rebounding for cellulite helps (and what it can't do)

Rebounding for cellulite works through the same routes as any other exercise, with one big advantage: the mat absorbs most of the landing, so you can train your legs hard without pounding your knees.

Muscle underneath the fat

Firmer, larger muscle in the glutes and thighs sits flatter under the skin and makes dimpling less obvious. The Cleveland Clinic lists building muscle as one of the ways exercise improves how cellulite looks. Every bounce works your calves, quads, hamstrings, and glutes, and the wobbly mat makes the small stabilising muscles work too.

Burning body fat

A thinner fat layer has less to push up through the connective tissue. A brisk rebounder workout gets your heart rate up quickly, and it is easy to stay on it for 20 minutes because it does not beat up your joints.

Circulation and lymph flow

Bouncing gets blood moving through the legs and helps lymph fluid drain, which can make the skin look less puffy for a while after a session. That effect is real but short-lived. It is a nice side effect, not the main reason the skin looks better over months.

What the evidence doesn't support

A lot of content about rebounding for cellulite says bouncing "flushes toxins" or "boosts collagen" in your skin. There is no good research showing either of those changes cellulite. Cellulite is not caused by toxins, and bouncing has not been shown to rebuild collagen. If a product page leans on those claims, treat the rest of it with the same scepticism.

10 rebounder exercises for cellulite

These are grouped by what they do. Warm up with the first two every time, then pick from the glute, stomach, and cardio groups.

Warm-up bounces

1. Health bounce. Feet hip-width apart, knees soft, heels staying on the mat. Push down into the mat and let it lift you slightly. One to two minutes gets the legs warm and lets you find your balance.

2. Marching bounce. March on the spot, lifting each foot a few centimetres. Swing your arms as you would walking. This raises your heart rate gently before the harder work.

Rebounder exercises for glutes and thighs

This is where most cellulite sits, so this group matters most.

3. Rebounder squats. Feet wider than hips, sit back and down until your thighs are close to parallel, then drive up through your heels. The soft mat means your glutes and thighs work harder to keep you steady. Life has its ups and downs, as the old gym line goes. On a rebounder, we call them squats.

4. Squat bounce. Hold a half squat and bounce gently without standing up. Your thighs will start burning around 30 seconds in. That is the point.

5. Butt kicks. Jog on the spot, bringing each heel toward your bottom. This works the hamstrings, the back of the thighs that other moves tend to miss.

6. Side-to-side hops. Hop from the left side of the mat to the right, landing softly with knees bent. The side movement brings in the outer hips and glutes, a common cellulite spot.

Trampoline exercises for stomach and waist

7. Twisting bounce. Keep your shoulders facing forward and twist your hips left and right as you bounce. Your obliques do the turning.

8. Knee lift with twist. Lift one knee and bring the opposite elbow toward it, then switch. Slow and controlled works the stomach more than fast and sloppy.

Cardio finishers

9. High knees. Drive your knees toward hip height at a quick pace. This is the hardest move here and the best one for burning energy.

10. Jumping jacks. Standard jumping jacks on the mat. Keep the jumps small and quick rather than high.

A 20-minute fat burning rebounder workout

This fat burning rebounder workout puts the glute moves in the middle, when you are warm but not yet tired, and saves the cardio for the end. Work for 40 seconds, rest for 20.

Block Exercises Time
Warm-up Health bounce, marching bounce 3 minutes
Glutes and thighs Rebounder squats, squat bounce, butt kicks, side-to-side hops (2 rounds) 8 minutes
Stomach Twisting bounce, knee lift with twist (2 rounds) 4 minutes
Cardio finisher High knees, jumping jacks (2 rounds) 4 minutes
Cool-down Health bounce, then step off and stretch 1 minute

New to this? Halve the rounds and rest for 40 seconds instead of 20. If you can talk in full sentences during the high knees, speed up.

How often to train, and when to expect results

Aim for four or five rebounder sessions a week of 15 to 20 minutes. The NHS guideline for adults is at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week, and five 20-minute sessions gets you most of the way there.

Then be patient. The Cleveland Clinic says exercise may take at least two to three months to show a noticeable change in cellulite. Take a photo in the same light on day one and again at week 12. Mirrors are bad at spotting slow change.

Add strength work on two other days

Here is our honest opinion: a rebounder on its own is a good cardio tool but a weak muscle builder. Bouncing only loads your legs with your body weight, and your glutes adapt to that within a few weeks. If muscle under the skin is what flattens cellulite, and it is, you need resistance that gets heavier over time. Two sessions a week of banded glute bridges, squats, and lunges, or dumbbell work if you have it, will do more for your thighs and bottom than extra bouncing. A set of resistance bands is the cheapest way to start.

Diet and water

You cannot out-bounce a diet that keeps adding fat. Eat enough protein to support the muscle you are building, and keep overall portions sensible. Drinking water will not remove cellulite, but dehydrated skin looks thinner and shows dimpling more, so drink enough to stay hydrated during and after training.

Rebounding vs other cellulite treatments

Here is how a rebounder workout compares with the other things people try.

Option What it does Honest verdict
Rebounding Burns energy, works legs, easy on joints Helps over months, best paired with strength work
Strength training Builds glute and thigh muscle The most useful single change you can make
Running or cycling Burns energy, works legs Similar result to rebounding, harder on knees (running)
Creams Temporarily tighten or hydrate skin Short-lived effect at best
Dry brushing and massage Reduce puffiness for a few hours Pleasant, not a long-term fix
Clinic treatments Cut or loosen the connective tissue bands The only route to bigger change, and the priciest

If you prefer a bike or a stepper to bouncing, the cardio equipment range does the same fat-burning job.

When a rebounder isn't the answer

We sell rebounders, and we would still tell you not to buy one in these cases:

  • You want cellulite gone. No exercise equipment does that. If that is the goal, see a dermatologist about clinic treatments instead.
  • You already run, cycle, or do classes most days. Your cardio is covered. Spend the money on bands or dumbbells for the strength side, which you are probably missing.
  • You have a pelvic floor problem. Repeated bouncing can make leaking worse. See a pelvic floor physiotherapist first.
  • You are pregnant or have a current knee, ankle, or hip injury. Low impact is not no impact. Get clearance from your doctor or physio.
  • You won't use it. A rebounder in the garage does nothing. If you know you prefer training outside, walk or run instead.

If none of those apply, a rebounder is an easy way to do regular leg-heavy cardio at home. It stores upright in a corner, and the handlebar models make the glute moves safer for beginners. See the full rebounder range here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can rebounding get rid of cellulite?

No. Nothing gets rid of cellulite completely, including rebounding. What rebounding can do is build muscle in your thighs and glutes and help you lose body fat, and both make cellulite less visible. Most people who stick with it notice smoother-looking skin, not skin without any dimpling.

What is the best rebounder exercise for cellulite?

Rebounder squats. They load the glutes and thighs, which is where most cellulite sits, and the unstable mat makes those muscles work harder than a squat on the floor. Pair them with high knees or butt kicks so the session also burns a useful amount of energy.

How long does it take to see results from rebounding for cellulite?

Plan on at least two to three months of regular training before you judge it. That timeline assumes four or five rebounder sessions a week plus two strength sessions. Anyone promising visible change in two weeks is selling something.

How many minutes a day should I rebound for cellulite?

15 to 20 minutes, four or five days a week, is enough. Longer sessions burn more energy, but consistency over months matters more than any single long session. Beginners should start with 5 to 10 minutes and add a few minutes each week.

Is rebounding better than running for cellulite?

Not better, but easier on the joints. Both burn energy and work the legs. Rebounding suits people who find running hard on their knees, want to train indoors, or are coming back to exercise. If you already run comfortably, add glute strength work before you buy a rebounder.

Do I need a rebounder with a handlebar for these exercises?

Not if your balance is good. A handlebar helps beginners, older adults, and anyone doing slower strength moves like rebounder squats, where there is no momentum to keep you steady. It also lets you push harder on high knees without worrying about falling off.
